The B. Dettmer Reederei was established in Bremen under this motto in 1947 by Bernhard and Wilhelm Dettmer. From the first small steps this company developed to one of the largest European inland shipping companies in family possession and is today being led by the sons of the founders in the second generation.

In order to suffice the quickly increasing transportation demands of the German industry, we have gradually expanded the fleet of our shipping company in the dry cargo as well as the tanker shipping business. In doing so the company always aimed at the highest demands in respect of the technical development and economic reason.

Analogous to the expansion of the fleet and the increasing transport volume an increasing organization followed, which meets the customer demands and the development of the communication technology. The important nearness to our customers as well as knowledge of the regional market are being ensured by branch offices in the important shipping areas.

The increasing connecting up of the supply, production and customer structures required an improvement of our self-image. Today we therefore see ourselves as an integrated service organization, which - beyond the mere transportation business - also takes over the development and control of complete transportation chains for the solution of customer problems. Thus, for instance, we are in a position to carry out preparatory and subsequent works, such as stevedore and container packing, by our own associations.

We transport goods of all kinds with modern vessels from 1.000 to 3.500 t and joint ventures of up to 7.000 t cargo capacity from the Rhine delta ports to the receivers in the Rhine river area and on the Donau, from German sea ports into the whole Canal area to the Oder and to the Rhine.

With a large tanker fleet we are serving the transport requirements of the mineral oil companies. In Magdeburg we have built an own tank storehouse. Here we realize interrupted traffic with the transport services ship, rail and truck.

Since the completion of the Main-Donau-Canal we have developed more and more traffic to and from the Donau neighbouring states and to the Black Sea. In this connection we were able to gather experience as to the waterway and the performance of the individual ports. It was also important for us to get in contact with local companies, in order to have competent on-site partners.

Today we are one of the few companies, which still operates with own ships. That way we ensure transportation security for our customers even in critical market situations.

As a matter of course we have had a quality management system with certifícation according to ISO standard for a long time. The continuous investigations by the Germanischer Lloyd guarantees for the quality of our work.

Furthermore, we are in possession of a nationwide, indefinitely valid transportation permit according to the recycling economic and waste law for all waste materials (Kreislaufwirtschafts- und Abfallgesetz für alle Abfallarten).

All of our transportation and services are being produced by us ultimately for mankind.

Making use of modern information technology with our customers ensures the smooth operation of our logistic activities.

Just as important for us and for our dedicated and qualified staff is also that through a close personal relationship with the customers, these will be satisfied on a long-term basis and a lasting relationship can be established.
